Athlete Alison dos Santos, from São Paulo, known as Piu, captured the title in the 400-meter hurdles during the Brazil Trophy this Sunday (26), in São Paulo. With a time of 46s48, the world champion and Olympic medalist registered the fastest mark in the world for the year 2026, consolidating his return to the top of the podium at the Ibirapuera Olympic Stadium.
Piu's performance was crucial for him to reclaim the lead in the world ranking for the event. Previously, the position was held by Norway's Karsten Warholm, who registered 46s61 at the London Diamond League. The new mark achieved by the Brazilian is the second best of his career, surpassed only by the time of 46s29, which he obtained in 2022 during the World Athletics Championships in Eugene.
The victory marked Alison's second individual conquest in the competition, following a seven-year period without winning isolated titles in the tournament. Last Friday (24), the athlete had already demonstrated strength by being the fastest in the 400m flat race. The success at the event was celebrated by the athlete amidst the support of his family members, present in the stands during the events.
In an interview with the Brazilian Athletics Confederation (CBAt), the sprinter highlighted the significance of his performance and the importance of maintaining focus on technical development. According to the athlete, the goal of setting expressive marks is to showcase the potential of national athletics and inspire other competitors to reach high levels.
The podium for the 400m hurdles event was completed by Matheus Lima, who won the silver medal with a time of 47s97, and by Francisco Guilherme Vianna, who took third place registering 49s38.
