The animal was seen in the vicinity of the Parque da Lagoa neighborhood. Watch the video above. A team from the Onças do Iguaçu Project went to the location and is monitoring the case. Cameras were installed to monitor the feline and understand the animal's movement. "We haven't been able to identify this animal yet. It's not one of the jaguars we know that circulates in the National Park. We have never had a jaguar walking in this place," detailed Yara Barros, executive coordinator of the Onças do Iguaçu Project. ✅ Follow the g1 PR channel on WhatsApp A resident of the neighborhood, who did not want to be identified, reported that she saw tracks of the animal. "It was seven something [in the morning] and a neighbor posted in the group that there was a jaguar in the village, but no one paid attention. By the time I got up, it was 8:15 am, more or less, I went to put clothes to wash and saw its marks in the area and, behind, in the lot, its footprints." According to Yara, the street is close to a wooded area. The researchers' suspicion is that the animal was in the woods, came out, got lost, and ended up entering the city. "Although it circulated through some houses, they [the project team] have already found tracks of where this animal returned to the woods. So this animal is no longer near the houses," informed the coordinator. The coordinator advises that if any resident spots the jaguar, they should contact the Onças do Iguaçu Project via phone (45) 99809-7698. "It is not an animal that left the woods to go after people, to hurt people. It is an animal that is probably lost, scared, and ended up getting lost there in the urban area," she explained.
