According to those responsible for the space, the attack happened while family members were participating in a gathering at the location. Children who were present had to be evacuated and hidden for safety. "It was terrifying, actually. We didn't imagine so much prejudice against our African-rooted religion. We were here with my grandchildren and my children, who came to spend Sunday with me. We had to hide the children. It was truly terrifying, we didn't expect this." According to the Civil Police, a police report was filed for injury related to religion. As per reports received by investigators, the suspect threw stones at the location and made religiously-motivated insults.
