Organic grape juice from São Roque wins national award after 6 years of research TV TEM/Reproduction A juice made with organic grapes in São Roque (SP) was awarded as one of the best in Brazil. The product won the platinum medal at the Brazilian Enology Association (ABE) contest, scoring between 90 and 95 points on a scale of up to 100.

The beverage competed for the title against nearly 200 samples from all over the country. The result is the fruit of a project that combines field knowledge with academic research. The experiment lasted six years, with four harvests that proved the viability of producing grapes without pesticides in the region.

The work was developed by the São Paulo Agency for Agribusiness Technology (Apta Regional), in partnership with the Federal Institute and the São Roque Wine Industry Union (Sindusvinho). The cultivation is done in an area of 4,000 square meters that brings together more than 1,300 vines. The space functions as an "open-air classroom" for students of the Enology course at the Federal Institute.

On-site, the agroecological concept is applied: Alternating rows: weeds and spontaneous plants are kept in every other row; Natural protection: this native vegetation serves as shelter for insects that fight vine pests, eliminating the use of chemical pesticides; Manual harvesting: the bunches are picked one by one, evaluating criteria of color, texture, and sweetness. After the harvest, the grapes go through a rigorous extraction and bottling process to maintain the fruit's purity. According to the president of Sindusvinho, Alex de Moraes, the secret to the award-winning flavor lies in the exact and balanced mixture of two traditional grape varieties: Bordô and Isabel.
