Federal Police will investigate Civil Defense alert sent in error The Ministry of Integration and Development will call the Federal Police to investigate the suspected invasion of the National Civil Defense system between this Friday night (19) and the early hours of this Saturday (20). Residents of seven Brazilian states received an extreme alert from the National Civil Defense containing the word "misanthropy", or variations. The message, however, was not linked to a real risk situation. The suspicion, according to the agency, is that the alert delivery platform, Civil Defense Alert, suffered an intrusion.
The message was broadcast remotely by someone without authorization and may have been the result of a hacker attack (read the full statement below). The delivery platform was taken offline at 1:30 AM this Saturday. ➡️ The Civil Defense system emits sounds and messages to residents of regions at risk of disasters, such as heavy rains. The alerts appear in pop-up format on cell phones, overlaying the content displayed on the screen. ➡️ This morning, the alert also caused a scare due to the way it reached cell phones: at high volume, like a siren that kept playing until the user viewed the message and stopped the warning, including on devices that were in silent mode.

"Misanthropy" means aversion or rejection of humanity, and can also refer to social isolation, melancholy, or deep sadness. In addition to the sound alert, residents of Rio de Janeiro also reported receiving text messages with unusual content.
In one of the records sent to g1, the message attributed to the Civil Defense said: “misanthrope ADRESS RJ stupid asf fr”. The text, with spelling errors and lacking context, reinforced the suspicion of a failure or misuse of the system. The message sent was of the Extreme Alert type and contained the word “misanthropy” — which means hatred of humanity.
It is likely a hacker attack. The National Secretariat for Protection and Civil Defense (SEDEC) of the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) will contact the Federal Police and take steps to reconnect the system as quickly as possible, once all security conditions are restored.
