Sanitation worker dies in hospital days after motorcycle hits the rear of a garbage truck and strikes him in Curitiba

Police investigate death of garbage collector while on duty Sanitation worker José Sidnei Aires dos Santos, from Curitiba, died in hospital four days after suffering an accident while working on garbage collection. On Friday (19) the worker was on the back of the truck when a motorcycle hit the vehicle and struck him. Security camera footage shows that he even walked away after the accident, but with difficulty. Watch in the report above. He was buried this Thursday (25), in Almirante Tamandaré, in the metropolitan region of the capital. The situation is being investigated by the Civil Police. According to delegate Edgar Santana, the investigation was initially opened for the crime of involuntary manslaughter (without intent to kill) while driving a motor vehicle. "Once again, the warning remains: traffic demands attention all the time. A moment of distraction can lead to severe consequences, including deaths, as occurred in this case," highlights the delegate. The name of the investigated motorcyclist was not released. The entity also pointed out that, in less than a month, two garbage collectors from Curitiba died as a result of accidents – in late May, a sanitation worker was crushed by a truck. "Siemaco reinforces, once again, the importance of attention and care from drivers when identifying a garbage truck on a public road. Where there is a collection truck, there are also three workers risking their lives daily to keep the city clean. Siemaco expresses solidarity with the pain of the families, friends, and all public cleaning workers. Nothing replaces a life and Siemaco will continue fighting for more health, safety, and respect in traffic."
