Blood donation in Óbidos Odirlei Santos/ASCOM-PMO The blood donation campaign held in Óbidos, in western Pará, resulted in the collection of 179 blood bags fit for use, reinforcing the stocks of the Fundação Centro de Hemoterapia e Hematologia do Pará (Hemopa). Of these, 179 had their bags collected and approved for use, while 30 candidates were considered unfit for not meeting the safety criteria required for donation. According to the assessment by the Hemocentro Regional de Santarém, the donation utilization rate reached 85,66%, a result considered excellent and fundamental for maintaining the stocks that supply health units throughout the western region of Pará. The Hemopa Santarém biomedical scientist, Elaine Soares, highlighted the importance of the campaign held annually in the municipality. “Once a year we come to Óbidos and rely heavily on this campaign to replenish our stocks, which are currently low. We had two days of service at Santa Casa and we were satisfied to count on the participation of donors from Óbidos, who always make a point of contributing to saving lives,” she stated. For her, the initiative represents an opportunity to help those in need. “With the donation of one bag of blood, you can help save up to four lives. It is a simple, quick act that provides the certainty of doing good for others.
It is a great satisfaction to contribute to this cause,” she said. Stock serves more than 20 municipalities The Hemocentro Regional de Santarém is responsible for blood collection, bone marrow donor registration, and the distribution of blood components to a network formed by more than 20 health units, including public, private, and philanthropic hospitals, in municipalities in the Baixo Amazonas region. Therefore, campaigns held in cities like Óbidos are considered strategic to guarantee the supply of stocks and ensure care for patients in need of blood transfusions. The campaign was a partnership between the Fundação Hemopa, the Prefeitura de Óbidos, through the Municipal Health Secretariat, and the Hospital Santa Casa de Misericórdia, which provided the structure for the services. The coordinator of the Transfusional Agency of the Municipal Health Secretariat, Ana Júlia Sarrazin, thanked the involvement of the institutions and the volunteers who participated in the mobilization. “Our thanks go to Fundação Hemopa, the Prefeitura de Óbidos, through the Health Secretariat, the press, the public institutions that mobilized their employees, and all the volunteers who made a difference in another campaign.
