For this, the patient must meet a series of clinical criteria. Furthermore, according to Anvisa, the request for compassionate use, whether direct or via the judicial system, is not made directly to Anvisa, but rather to the sponsoring laboratory, in this case, Cristália. If the laboratory agrees to donate the experimental medication to the patient, it submits a process for Anvisa's final approval. The process requires that there are no other therapeutic options for the patient, evaluation and opinion from the responsible physicians, clinical history, and other information regarding each case. In Ana's case, with clinical evolution and the removal of immediate risk of death, the team at Hospital do Trabalhador noted the absence of movement resulting from the spinal injury and evaluated that the patient could fit the criteria to receive polylaminin through the compassionate use program. The necessary documentation was prepared and forwarded to the laboratory responsible for developing the therapy.
On Monday (15), the laboratory informed that the patient met the established criteria to receive the medication. Subsequently, the request was submitted by the laboratory to Anvisa, which authorized the release of the substance for this specific case.
