100 days until the elections, check out pre-candidates for governor and Senate in 26 states and the DF

The electoral scenario 100 days before the 1st round With 100 days to go until the first round of the general elections on October 4, the situation in most Brazilian states remains undefined regarding pre-candidates for governor and Senate. Bahia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, and Santa Catarina are among the few states where alliances have already been confirmed. In São Paulo, the withdrawal of Paulo Serra (PSDB) and Kim Kataguiri (Missão) should lead to an unprecedented dispute, which may be resolved in the 1st round. Among the parties with representation in the Chamber of Deputies, only Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) and Fernando Haddad (PT) have been confirmed as pre-candidates for the government of São Paulo. Alagoas, Minas Gerais, Amazonas, and Espírito Santo are some of the states where pre-candidates for governor have not been defined. There is also uncertainty regarding pre-candidates for the Senate in states like Ceará and Paraná. Meanwhile, in Acre, Roraima, Sergipe, and the Federal District, the doubt surrounds the pre-candidacy of certain politicians who may end up being considered ineligible. To compile the list of potential candidates in the states and the Federal District, g1 considered only those who have publicly announced their pre-candidacy. The scenario may still change in some cases, depending on party conventions taking place between July 20 and August 5. states where a major name remains undefined. João Henrique Caldas (PSDB), known as JHC, stepped down as mayor of Maceió to run in the elections, but has not confirmed whether he will run for governor. In Minas Gerais, Cleitinho (Republicanos) is also being considered, but has not confirmed his pre-candidacy. In Piauí, Mainha (Podemos), Lúcia Santos (PSDB), and Jesus Rodrigues (Cidadania) have launched their names, but are expected to form a single ticket depending on poll results. Meanwhile, in Mato Grosso, Jayme Campos (União) has expressed interest in running for governor, but his candidacy has not been confirmed by his party. In Amazonas, the incumbent camp remains undefined. The governing group, led by former governor Wilson Lima (União Brasil), a Senate pre-candidate, has not confirmed whether current governor Roberto Cidade (União Brasil) will seek reelection. Meanwhile, in Espírito Santo, the only officially declared pre-candidate is Ricardo Ferraço. Others talk about running for the office, but have not finalized their decisions. The same goes for the Senate race. The only confirmed name is Renato Casagrande (PSB). In Ceará, the main uncertainty is who the Senate candidates will be, for both the incumbent and opposition tickets. In Maranhão, federal deputy and former governor of Maranhão Roseana Sarney (MDB) has appeared prominently in electoral polls, but she has not yet formalized her pre-candidacy. Legal instability In the Federal District, one of the main questions is whether former governor José Roberto Arruda (PSD) will be able to run for governor or if he remains barred by the Clean Slate Law (Lei Ficha Limpa). A similar situation is occurring in Sergipe regarding Valmir de Francisquinho's candidacy. Francisquinho had lost his political rights in 2024 following a conviction for administrative misconduct while he was mayor of Itabaiana. In January 2026, he obtained an injunction from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) suspending the conviction. However, the scenario may change by the elections. The legal situation is also unstable for Denarium (Republicanos), a Senate pre-candidate in Roraima. He was declared ineligible for 8 years in April, but is expected to appeal the decision. In Acre, former governor Gladson Camelí (PP), a Senate pre-candidate, is appealing an STJ conviction from May.
