How to safely maintain your workout routine in the winter
Practical tips to overcome the discouragement of cold days and protect the body during physical activity
1. Dedicate more time to warming up
In the cold, muscles and joints tend to become stiffer. Therefore, warming up is essential. Start with light, joint-mobilizing movements, such as arm and hip rotations, or a light walk before starting your main workout. This gradually increases body temperature and reduces the risk of injury.
2. Dress in layers
The tactic of dressing "like an onion" is ideal for winter. Wear a base layer that wicks away sweat, a thermal or light layer on top, and, if necessary, a windbreaker jacket. As your body warms up during exercise, you can remove pieces to prevent overheating.
3. Do not neglect hydration
The sensation of thirst usually decreases on cold days, but the body continues to lose water through perspiration and breathing. Always keep a water bottle nearby and take small sips before, during, and after physical activity to ensure the proper functioning of the organism.
4. Adapt the location and time of your workouts
If laziness or freezing wind discourages outdoor workouts, try training indoors or adjusting your workout schedule. Practicing physical activities at lunchtime or in the mid-afternoon, when temperatures are slightly milder, can make the experience much more pleasant.
5. Respect your body's limits
Winter may require a longer recovery time. Pay attention to signs of extreme fatigue or joint pain. Remember that consistency is more important than exaggerated intensity. To adapt your workouts to your individual needs safely, always consult a physical education professional.
