5 estratégias para equilibrar o orçamento doméstico no inverno

1. Pay attention to the use of electric showers and heaters

The electric shower is usually one of the main culprits for the increase in energy bills during the colder months. To avoid surprises, try to reduce shower time. On days when the temperature is milder, switch the shower dial to the intermediate position. If you use portable heaters, turn them on only in the room where you are and remember to turn them off when leaving the room.

2. Planning for clothing purchases

Before going shopping to renew your winter wardrobe, take inventory of the pieces you already own. Often, stored coats and blankets just need a good wash and minor adjustments. If you really need to buy something, give preference to basic, durable, and versatile items. Shopping at thrift stores and waiting for end-of-season sales are also excellent ways to save money.

3. Prepare hot and economical meals at home

Cold weather naturally increases the desire for heartier meals, which can drive up delivery service expenses. A healthy and economical alternative is to prepare broths, soups, and teas at home. Use seasonal vegetables, which are usually cheaper and more nutritious, and take the opportunity to cook in larger quantities, freezing portions for busier routine days.

4. Enjoy home entertainment

In winter, the tendency is to spend more time indoors. Instead of frequent outings that usually drive up the budget, plan cozy activities at home. Movie nights, family board game sessions, or potluck dinners, where each guest contributes a dish, are great ways to socialize while spending less.

5. Optimize the use of the washing machine

Since winter clothes are heavier and take longer to dry, the frequent use of dryers or extra spin cycles can increase electricity consumption. To save money, accumulate enough laundry to use the washing machine's full capacity and make the most of sunny and windy days to dry your clothes naturally on the clothesline.
